What not to do

More Blue Lake posts to come, I promise. But that will be within the next few days.

**********

Right now I have something else to blog about.

It's called, "What not to do."

What not to do, especially when you are already frustrated with life, and you are currently pms-ing like no ones business.

Don't look up your sworn enemy on myspace, the girl you haven't seen since senior year of high school, when you were both at a Urban League Black Scholars luncheon. Don't recall how she hated you in elementary school when you were both the new girls, just because you suddenly became more popular than her. Don't recall that you tried your hardest to be friends with her, only for said enemy to only accept your friendship with the evil plan to learn enough about you to publicly humliate you during your sixth grade year in elementary school. Don't recall that you tried to bury the hatchet on the first day of junior high school only for her to tease you in front of everyone, and thus getting her popular friends to make your life a living hell for two years.

Don't recall that after the joy of not going to the same high school, you saw her during your senior year of high school, at said luncheon, where she continued to snub her nose at you. Don't recall that she was gleeful that her gpa was higher than yours (even though you were both at an honors gathering) and don't recall that she made a mention that you had put on weight since the last time she saw you.

So don't look this person up on myspace. Don't see that her life is currently fabulous, that she is currently recording an album, that she has joined a famous tap dancer's dance troupe, and that she has danced at the Cannes Film Festival many years in a row, and also tap danced at the Winter Olympics. Don't compare her life to yours. Don't think that if she could see you, right now, in your pajamas with messy hair, frantically filling out grad school applications for a program you're not really sure you want to do anymore, working a job that is completely blah, still living in your parents house, sleeping in the same little bedroom at night, that, she'd laugh and chuckle to herself.

And don't think about how you never did understand how this feud got started to begin with. That said girl was always talented and you never understood why it was she was jealous of you in the fifth grade. Why she felt the need to knock you from queen bee status in the sixth grade. Why she felt the need to humiliate you in middle school, when all you wanted was to be friends.

And don't feel sorry for yourself because you life isn't quite going as planned.

And finally, don't dwell on this. PMS is a fleeting thing, and so are tap dancer's joints.

A dancer's career is over by the time they're about 28 and you'll be secure in being able to get any job you want because you have a Bachelors, which is much more important in the long run. Chin up. I'm rooting for you no matter what you decide on doing because you will be sucessful and it won't be a fleeting sucess it will be a live long sucess.
