Well, life has been pretty darn boring over the last week! Nothing really to tell... Tabby's doing better, I've been working, the weather is still pretty sucky... yeah! Not much going on!
Well, I'm getting ready to turn in my grad school applications. I've decided finally to apply for Health Education at the University of Michigan-Flint (my alma mater) and a similar program at Central Michigan University. Basically I'm applying at CMU as a safety. I don't like the feeling of having all my eggs in one basket! I am much, much, much more impressed with the program at UMF though. They have a required internship, grants, fellowships, etc. Central Michigan, not so much! Financial aid yes, but no internship, grants, etc. Plus, the professors at UMF were just so on top of their game! They just made me feel like they were all about helping me in every step of the way, which I was really grateful for!
Also, in case you're wondering, I actually feel really good about this decision. Overall, I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm never going to feel one hundred percent about anything, at least at this point in my life. It's hard for me because I used to be so confident in everything that I did, and now in life I second guess myself on everything. Maybe that's the curse of being in your twenties? All I know is, this masters program is designed to be flexible (I can go in to teaching, public health, health administration, etc) and that makes me feel so good! I ended up deciding against doing a straight out education major because I felt like in the end, it was going to leave me quite limited. While I've decided that medicine isn't for me, I do know that overall I'm ambitious and driven, and at this point in life I'm not going to be happy with a job that limits me. As soon as I hit a ceiling I'm going to be looking to move on. Getting a degree in something that is both flexible but offers me actual career choices is helping me feel like I can spread my wings a bit. Now the waiting game is going to take effect, and we all know I don't do well with that! (Insert anxiety issues right here.) I've gotten two of my three recommendations done (trying to get in contact with a third person, but luckily I have a backup just in case), the applications are filled out, the checks are signed... just personal statements and transcripts... and I'm in business. Hopefully I'll have an answer from at least one school by the 1st of June, so I can go off to my summer job with an actual plan!

Anyhow, moving on. Yesterday was my Daddy's 57th birthday! Unfortunately, I ordered his gift entirely from Amazon.com, which for some reason they took forever shipping the gifts! So, I gave him his card yesterday and told him his gifts were going to be belated. Hopefully they'll be here tomorrow! I ordered him the "Bourne" films on DVD (he saw the Bourne Identity on tv and went on and on about what a great movie it was), and a retirement financial book by Suze Orman. My dad is considering retiring soon, and money seems to be on his mind. (Actually, I think keeping my mother away from the money is what is really on his mind!) Hopefully the book will give him some insight, and the movies will give him hours of enjoyment. :) My mom got him some really nice casual and semi-casual shirts for the warmer weather. I didn't really care for the pattern of a few of them (I don't think my dad was, either!) but that was hardly a can of worms I wanted to open with my mom. She also got him some DVDs, and made him a German chocolate cake and a steak dinner. Turning 57 doesn't seem to be that bad for my dad! He hardly has any gray hair, or any wrinkles. He was all smiles yesterday and really seemed to secretly be enjoying all the attention paid his way! The only thing that bugs me to no end is that my sister didn't bother calling my dad at all yesterday! Sometimes she will say that she "forgets" these things because of her MS, but I personally find that to be a load of crap. She can remember her best friend's birthday with no problem, but forgets her father's birthday? I even sent her a text message that said "It's Daddy's birthday, don't forget to call him!" To me there is no excuse... she still hasn't bothered to pick up the phone, and I think it hurt my dad's feelings a bit. I also feel pretty sure that her husband probably reminded her, so all in all, I'm irritated with Tiffany! She "forgot" these things long before she had MS, so I just think it's her being a bit self-important.

Moving on from the subject of my sister (lord knows I could go on all day about that!), I'm on spring break! Which is great because I can really use the break from work, but also crappy because it's a week I won't be getting paid. Especially since my tickets to Philadelphia were a little more than $225, it would be nice to have a little extra money! I'm not hurting for money, but I'm hardly rolling in it, either. I was a little perturbed that all five school districts I can sub in all took the same exact week for spring break! If they had staggered it then I could have been still getting work. Ah well. I'm also worried that the week the kids will go back will be hard to get work due to MEAP testing... but hopefully since all grades are not testing I should be able to find some work. I want to have at least $100 spending money to take with me on my trip without feeling guilty about the money I have spent. Plus, I really am in need of a couple pairs of shorts and a couple of tops for the spring/summer. I keep looking ahead, looking at my current bank account figures, figuring foreseeable future expenses, and it's making me scratch my head a bit. Ah well, how's that song Bittersweet Symphony go? "You're a slave to money... and then you die." Well, here's hoping to not be a slave to money for the rest of my life!

One more thought to end my blog by. As most of my readers know (seeing as this is how I've met many of my readers, the handful of them, lol) I have frequented a few message boards/forums for almost eight years now. Now I'm only on two, one I frequent almost everyday, one I frequent about once a week or less. Anyhow, ever since I started on those boards, my screen name has always been kindred_spirit2000, or kindredspirit. I gotta say, when we all switched from forum to forum, I always kept my screenname the same. I found it personally really irritating when people would come up with a completely random new name, because it made it hard to keep up with your friends! But now, after all these years, I'm kind of over the whole screenname handle thing. I haven't even checked if it is possible on both boards, but I'd like to change my screename simply to Tamara. Do you guys think that would be too confusing? Would people still know it's me? Any thoughts on this are welcome.

To end... in the words of my boss Heidi from the other day "I hope it's springtime where ever you may be!" Yes, Michigan is clinging on to winter for dear life, but I hear tomorrow won't be too bad (even if it is a bit rainy!). Here's hoping spring wanders its way in... because I'm really in need of some tulips!

Coolness about grad school! My sister Jayme will be graduating with her masters from CMU in May. :)
Happy {belated} B-Day to your dad!
I think changing your forum name will be fine! Well for Ingleside anyway. There hasn't been any new members {that I've seen } in ages, so I don't think anybody won't know who you are. LOL! Also helps that we have avatars too. I usually can tell who is who just by that. :) -
