So hi! I feel so out of touch! I am still trying to get the video blogs up, but they pretty much take a million years to upload to photobucket... and time is not something I have a lot of!
So... last session, our first session, was basically the most bizarre session I've ever had! Like the most stressful I've ever had, to be more exact. I'll try to summarize by saying that we had to call three, yes THREE ambulances in a 72 hour period, and guess who has to ride on the ambulance if we call for one? Oh that's right, ME. Only I got lucky and had to ride on two instead of three... craziness.
I won't go in to too many details except to say that two, the one from that past Saturday and then the other on Tuesday were campers who had something going on. On Saturday I rode with a camper who we thought might have a spinal injury from the pool (she was fine), and on Tuesday an Associate staff director rode on the ambulance with a camper who had a very bad seizure when they had never had a history of them before.
On that Sunday... oh it was the Sunday before the fourth of July... whatever day that makes it... was horrible. We got called to the chapel first thing in the morning with a call that a counselor had passed out during a Bible reading. When we got there... boy oh boy was my training put in to place. First thing we noticed was that she seemed to have a bit of paralysis... and her pupils were not reacting to light. Her grip strengths were not equal... blood pressure was low... scary scary scary! All her symptoms were saying stroke... but who wants to believe that a 27 year old has had a stroke? Seeing as I knew the girl relatively well (as well as you can know someone in a month's time) I was very shaky the whole time we were backboarding her and all during the ambulance ride. I stayed at the hospital for hours with her, talking on the the phone to her mother who was hundreds of miles away, talking with my boss Jenn... having doctor after doctor come in. She's doing fine now, but she actually did have a stroke... and I'll never forget that moment, that's for sure! I was an emotional wreck for the rest of the day, as was everyone else I knew, but I just gritted my teeth and worked in the health lodge for another eight hours. I can't lie, that night I totally cried. It was just too much.
So sigh... that's where we are now. I've had a session break, which meant a few days off. LOL My friends talked me in to having a bit too much tequila... which wasn't exactly a bad thing. I also wrote a note to a co-worker, telling him what a good job he was doing and then following it up with the fact that I thought he was cute! Haha! One rare brave moment in my life... although now I feel totally stupid for doing so. He has been as friendly as ever to me but has yet to mention the note I wrote. Ah geez... I feel embarrassed, and I have a feeling he told another co-worker, because that person felt the need to squeeze my arm when the other guy walked past... Oh yes, the camp drama goes on. I don't think I've ever made it a point to tell a boy he was cute, so that was a much needed, if embarrassing, step in life.
Okay, my break is almost over... I need to grab some dinner. Take care all... hope to update soon, and hopefully read your blogs as well!
