I'm finding myself yawning tonight, partially because it's after 11pm here, and partially because I'm feeling the crunch of the upcoming holiday! There is so much to do tomorrow! I was hoping to work (I may still take a half day morning assignment if one comes up), I need to make my pies (possibly even make a grocery run for one ingredient I think we're out of), do something with my hair (it's a frizzy mess), and my friend wants me to be at her house by 5:30pm to ride with them to the game. Why exactly we're meeting at 5:30 for a game that doesn't start until 8, I don't know.

I had a thought today, about technology. It was during an incredibly boring lecture that my friend who was sitting next to me sent me a note, via text message. I found myself sliding my phone under the desk, sending her a text in reply... and we continued to do this throughout class. Our professor was completely unaware of that we were amusing ourselves in such a way. And it reminded me that a few years back, as an undergrad, friends sending instant messages to one another on their laptops when class got boring. It sure has changed us from the days in high school, when we'd do the yawn and throw a note thing!
Within just a few years, the whole Facebook/Myspace thing has taken on a life of its own as well! I remember hearing friends go on and on about Facebook or Myspace and being completely uninterested in it, until I too got sucked in! Now Facebook is one of the first sites I check when I get online, and I check it periodically through the day.
It seems funny, but it's almost hard to remember what life was like before Facebook and Myspace and instant messaging and cell phones. I was watching an episode of Growing Pains the other day where Mike was complaining about not calling home because he didn't have a quarter for the pay phone! It wasn't that long ago at all, but it seems like such a foreign concept now.
Even iPods... I can't even imagine carrying around a clunky walkman now! Now I have this tiny iPod nano that is barely bigger than a credit card, that has hundreds of songs on it. I strap it to my arm and off I go for a workout.
I think Thanksgiving is always a time of reflection for me, not only of things I'm thankful for, but it also brings up lots of memories of the past. It's always interesting to think about the way things used to be, and to think about where things are headed. Just think of all the amazing technology of the future that is just waiting to be thought up!
What Your Thanksgiving Meal Says About You |
![]() When it comes to the holidays, you follow and love the big traditions. You look forward to them every year. You see the holidays as a time to think about what's important to you. It's a good time to reflect and regroup. You like the aspects of the holiday that remind you of your childhood - opening presents, treats, and old favorite foods. During the holidays, you are likely to feel generous. At your worst, you feel exhausted. You consider yourself to be a bit of a purist, and you're proud of it. You tend to spend your holidays doing everything and anything. You really get into the holiday spirit. |

I remember living without all these modern conveniences, but it all seems like such a long time ago to me!
I'm glad the internet, cell phones, etc. weren't around when I was in school though. Kids are so brutal nowadays with making fun of one another on the net for all to see.
And with Facebook, I am SO addicted to it too! I barely even go on MySpace anymore.
I just typed out a long comment, then got an error message and it didn't get posted >:(
Anyway, what I was saying was that it's crazy how something we didn't have 20 years ago makes panic set in if we leave the house without it today. I've turned around and lost half an hour before just to get my cell phone. And I'm the queen of looking up facts and definitions and the history of things...I don't know HOW I did that before the internet. I was most definitely less informed ;)
Heh heh heh--believe me, professors know what's going on. ;)
LOL Nah, if you knew how clueless this professor was, you'd know she had no idea what was going on.
