More computer woes for me today. You know, I just made a comment the other day when I realized that my camera was dying, that I couldn't really deal with any other problems with the technology I've come to love... and now computer issues. Ekk.
Magically last night, my wireless connection worked again. Although, it's super crappy because it dies about every five minutes. And forget about me trying to do anything complicated! My dad is considering that the router box downstairs may be faulty, because my mom complains that her tv screen regularly freezes up. I just don't think this connection problem is because of my computer! If it were my computer, why is it that by making no changes whatsoever, my internet connection comes back? Firewall my arse...
Anyhoo... that being said, my computer has been running slower than I'd like for the last year. It is almost four years old, but I've got lots of free memory. I'm aware that there is a piece of spyware on my computer that my virus scan can't seem to kick... and that's annoying. Plus, it's probably time for me to update to Vista. Although I cringe to say that, because all the computers at school are on Vista and I hate it.
So where am I going with this conversation? I'm considering either taking my computer to the Dell store (I don't know if they do repair there?), or sending it in to Dell to have it serviced. I would like it to just be cleaned up, so it works faster (more like it used to), maybe doesn't get so hot, and could be updated to Vista without giving me a headache. I guess the first thought is, how much would this cost? Secondly, is it worth it? I'd be willing to spend up to $200 if my computer could completely work the way it is supposed to. Does anyone have any advice? Have you ever took your computer anywhere for a tune up? Was it worth it?
Anyhow, to really test my internet connection, I think I'm going to first register my computer with the computer lab at school, and secondly use my computer to pick up the wireless there. This way, if my computer readily picks up the wireless and is able to keep a strong connection that doesn't drop every two seconds, I'll know for sure that it is our crappy wireless and not my computer.
My stress relief for yesterday? It was finishing my paper early in the day so I didn't worry about it later on.
My stress relief for today? Hmm... good question! I think perhaps I'll make it a point to get in to bed at a decent hour.

If I were you I would avoide the repair shops because they will probably charge a fortune. Do you know anyone who knows much about computers? I've had Jon wipe my hard drive (after backing up important stuff on an external hard drive) and re-install everything. It makes the computer work like new. I don't know how to do it, but I know that it can't be that hard because back in like 02 my mom did it, which is saying something considering she didn't ever even touch a computer before like 01. It's worth looking into. Good luck!

Yeah, I talked to a friend who is very tech savvy, and he said the same thing you did. He's going to walk me through how to do it (he lives in Chicagoland so he can't physically come here to do it for me), and hopefully it will help my computer work like new.
Overall, my computer still works pretty well... it's just slower then it used to be, plus I'm tired of the phone company blaming these internet problems on me! With my computer completely cleaned up, I can prove once and for all they're at fault. -

I was having problems with my sister's laptop. The wireless connection was terrible. It would never connect to our network. I'd have to constantly unplug the router. Oddly enough, after I bitched about wanting a new router, it started working just fine. Her computer has Vista though. I'm convinced that's why it was acting wonky.
Hopefully once you clear your hard drive it will help!! :) -
