I was just wondering if anyone is doing NaBloPoMo? I think I'm going to. I went through on a whim and read all of my posts from November of last year, and it was pretty interesting to see where my life was then and where I am now. Also, I just think it will be good to get my creative juices going again!
So... in other news, the government just sent me a bill for $500 for my student loans, due in less than 30 days!!! I most definitely don't have that kind of money. I've been living less than paycheck to paycheck right now... as it is for November I'm pretty much draining my little savings to pay for my rent. And I'm seriously hoping and praying I get enough work over the month to pay my rent for December and January! The worst part about this is I went online over a month ago and filled out an application for an unemployment deferment. Which seems to me it should have been set, because one of my loans was supposed to go into repayment this month and never did. So anyhow... I'll be spending some time this morning trying to get that straightened out.
I also need to get it fixed for when it does go into repayment that it is income based. This news about Obama talking about student loans has educated me! Apparently they currently are supposed to cap your payments at 12% of your income... currently $500 is like 45% of my (pre-tax) income a month! I used an online calculator and income based I should be only paying like $42 a month... which is much more manageable but still makes me cringe to have yet another bill! Ah, if worst comes to worst I'll have to withdraw money from that account prior to the electronic debit to make sure I can pay my rent for the month. An insufficient funds charge will be much cheaper than $500!
I'm also considering getting a job for seasonal employment only. My sister works at Kohls, so I'm considering talking to her and seeing if she could put in a good word for me. I have never worked anything close to retail before, so even a cash register is a bit of a foreign concept to me. So, I'm still considering it. It would just be nice to not be worried about how I'm going to pay my rent for December and January. A small bump in income would be enough to make me not feel so stressed out.
And in other news, I gave a speech for the American Cancer Society on Thursday, and it went over very well! I personally wasn't overly impressed with my presentation, but everyone there was! One woman couldn't wrap her brain around the fact that I didn't do this for a class project, and she kept saying when it was done, "Oh beautiful, beautiful... I hope you get an A+ because that was just fantastic!" I told her again I didn't do this for a class, but she just smiled and nodded. I was happy to do it, but I kept thinking to myself it would be nice one day to get paid for giving presentations....
After I *hopefully* get this loan stuff straightened out I plan to head up to school to work on my thesis stats. My biostats professor went through my survey question by question and told me what her thoughts were for each statistical test I should run. Then, later on Thursday, I met with a statistician at school to make sure I was on the right track. I assumed this guy would be like in his 50s, balding, and smelling of stale coffee. Haha, I was sooo wrong! He was like 30, and super cute in that nerdy smart way that I love. And apparently I know more about biostats than I realized, because I said "So this is what my professor said... and I was thinking I need an independent samples T-test... and then for these questions I think I need a chi-square test of variance... and for my Likert scale I was thinking...."
He smiled at me (totally distracting to me, btw!), and was like "yes exactly! You're on the right track. I don't think you really need my help too much, sounds like you're pretty familiar with Biostats and SPSS." In which immediately I thought to myself I should have played it dumb in order to milk as much help out of this guy as possible, haha. But, well, I'm not really the type of girl who is willing to play it dumb for anyone, so... yeah.
Ok, time to eat some breakfast and then call the government and try to get somewhere... that should be interesting.

NaBloPoMo? And other ramblings...

I think I'm going to attempt Nablopomo. It's a tradition that I would hate to break, even if I am having a baby that month. :) It's easy to blog from my phone if I need to though.
Speaking of student loans, I have been deferring mine because there is no way I can afford to pay them with what I make. I think I have been doing the "financial hardship" deferments and they haven't been giving me any trouble about it. I hope you get it all figured out soon! -

Speaking of student loans, I have been deferring mine because there is no way I can afford to pay them with what I make. I think I have been doing the "financial hardship" deferments and they haven't been giving me any trouble about it. I hope you get it all figured out soon!
