I fail at NaBloPoMo... :(
Ah well, I've tried. This has been a very busy few days, with me getting home late and not having time to blog.
Thanksgiving was good in an unexpected way! My mom was in a pretty craptastic mood, and started the night lecturing my father about all the ways he didn't help her. Anyhow, because of her mood she ended up taking a "nap" after dinner (my mom says nap but then she sleeps for 5 hours). While she was sleeping, my dad and I just sat and talked, and talked, and talked! Unlike "talking" with my mother, my dad actually lets you say your thoughts, and furthermore, he actually listens to your thoughts!
And, he has some really amazing things to say when he is able to get a word in edgewise! He told me stories I had never heard before about his childhood, about my grandfather being a coal miner, and even gave me dating advice! Who would think I could start rambling to my dad about the guys I've dated? But he sat and listened and nodded, and gave me sound advice about dealing with men. It reminded me about how much I love my father.
Also, on Friday, Bernadette's niece Nala came to stay with us. She's 10 years old going on 40, and the kid is a riot. She's the sweetest girl in the world, but unfortunately her mother is a poor example for her. Bernadette tries to be someone Nala can look up to. Nala proclaimed that in case "we" weren't aware, I was just as much her aunt as Bernadette was. It made me smile, because she is such a little sweetheart. And the kid is obsessed with the show Extreme Couponing! We went shopping last night, and Nala started talking about how she could have sworn she saw a coupon for a similar product in the Black Friday ads... hahaha.
Anyway, I taught her how to crochet, and she's trying to make a headband. I told her to keep working on it, and the next time she's over we'll add some cool buttons to it for a little flair. :) She pretty much decided that because of this, I am the coolest person ever. Haha, not even close, but I was flattered. Anyhow, she helped us put up our Christmas tree, and helped us clean. Of course, we did have to clean up after her when she left, but I think it was an even trade off.
Okay, I'm going to do an awful thing... and go eat a big fat slice of pie before I go to bed. And honestly, I'm super excited about that!
