Crack is Wack

Ah. I've done so much today but somehow I still feel guilty for what I haven't accomplished! I'm still nursing a bit of a headache (really hoping I'm not getting another head cold from the children I work with... I was really starting to enjoy this whole not being sick thing...) so I really shouldn't be feeling guilty. Here's a quick rundown on my day. I was lucky enough to get to sleep in until 10am. I went to work at noon and actually had a pretty easy day. I subbed for a class that had a student teacher, so basically I just graded papers for the day. I got the headache around the 6th hour class, because those kids were loud and obnoxious and didn't do anything the student teacher asked them to do. I came home with the headache, and got a quick and late bite for lunch. After that I was out the door again. I went to the University of Michigan-Flint, hoping to finish up my current bit of volunteer work, as well as working out at the gym (Which is another story in itself... see below!). After that, I came home, ate some dinner, and followed that up with some Biochem studying. Finally, I took a break and played half an hour of a computer game, chatted with a friend, and cleaned up Tabitha's veggie soup puke. Yes, she had veggie soup. Why? Because my mother fed it to her... yeah, it was pretty gross to clean up. Dog barf is always gross to clean up, because it looks a little too much like human barf. But I digress...

That was my day in a nutshell. I think it was pretty filled up... but I still feel guilty. I might try to get in one more half hour of Biochem before I go to bed.

On to my story that was mentioned above. So I've been doing some volunteer work with the MS society. This volunteer work for this time period has been pretty simple. I have to distribute 30 packs of brochures to 30 business types. These brochures are to be sat out on desks or counter tops, advertising the MS walks and bike tours in the spring. It is simple, except that a lot of businesses have corporate things about not putting out things to sit in public without having corporate approval beforehand. This means that what should be easy has been a little more complicated. Add in the fact that me and my sister were supposed to be doing this together... but I ended up doing most of it myself... and yeah. It's taken a bit longer than I wished it had.

Today was the proposed deadline to get the brochures completely handed out. No one was going to call me up yelling at me if I hadn't gotten done yet, but I was putting pressure on myself to get it done. The last time my sister and I went out together to get the brochures out, we didn't finish them all. My sister left the extras in my car in a box. I called her over the weekend and when I discussed the leftover brochures, she made it a point to say that there were only 5 packs left. I thought "Ah, five packs aren't bad... I can totally get that done in half an hours time if I take them to UM-F and distribute them to the different departments."

Yeah, except, there were 10 packs left, not 5. The offices closed at 5pm, and because of work and lunch, I wasn't able to get to UM-F until after 4pm. So I was a bit stressed! I wanted to get this done today, and not be worried about it anymore. I decided to take them to UM-F for two good reasons. Number one, the different departments love to help out students who are doing various bits of volunteer work, and two, I was running out of time and ideas!

Everything went fine for the most part. I was making good time, hitting up department after department. I only had two more brochure packs to give out, when I decided to stop by the Office of Social Work. Big mistake!!! When I went in there, the secretary looked like she couldn't be bothered by me. This was a little surprising to me, seeing as the eight previous offices I had been in had very friendly secretaries who were more than willing to help me out. Then when I told the secretary that I was a volunteer, she looked at me as if she didn't believe me. I then showed her my brochures, to let her know that indeed, I was being honest, and that NO, I wasn't trying to sell anything. I would have been fine with an answer of "no" from her, but instead she says yes, still giving me the evil eye. When I politely asked her where I could leave them, she gets pissy with me, and waves her hand towards a bookcase. After I sat the brochures down, I simply asked her to sign my sheet, verifying where I left them. Then she goes total ape shit! Seriously! She burst out with "What is this? Is this some kind of thing that you want my signature because you don't have permission to do this? Is it because you aren't allow to do this type of thing in a school? Now you want me to give you my permission and get myself in trouble?"

Now, the Flint raised child inside of me wanted to tell the old hag to shove the brochures up her ass. I figured that as a volunteer of a very worthy cause, I should not represent the NMSS in such a way. So I took a deep breath, gave her my best "Oh my god you are completely clueless!" smile, and said "Um, what? I don't understand what you're getting at. Ma'am, I'm not selling anything. I'm a volunteer. We're not selling anything. This is like a breast cancer walk, or an AIDS walk. This is for MS. Multiple Sclerosis. The last time I checked, the University encouraged their students to do things like this. This is simply so the Society can keep track of where their brochures have been left. If you have a problem with this, it is fine and I will not bother you anymore. As far as you thinking I am up to something, well, I have the signatures of eight other secretaries in this building who were more than willing to help out such a great cause."

The work study behind her started snickering (I took it the work study was not a big fan of the woman) as soon as I was done with my "I'm going to smile and be polite even though it's clear through the tone of my voice that I am sooo over you!" speech. The secretary, finally relented and signed my paper. Now whether she was realizing how stupid she came off, was irritated by the work study, or simply wanted to get me out of her hair, I don't know. Either way, hopefully she didn't chunk them as soon as I walked away.

People are apparently smoking low quality crack.

One more thing about people smoking crack. I changed my facebook profile picture to this:

Okay so at first I thought it was cute. Random angle that didn't show my double chin. Even though I'm not exactly overweight, I had a chubby "baby" face...and what that means is that I store fat on my head like a chipmunk! LOL Anyhow, I am becoming okay with the fact that I have a big head, and a fat face. So at first I thought this photo was cute because you couldn't see my double chin-age that occurs if I take a picture at the wrong angle. When I looked at it later, I thought to myself... hmm, that photo is not so cute. I clearly look tired in it, it makes my nose look even bigger, and since my body is further away from the camera it makes my head look that much bigger. I think I look like a bobblehead. Anyhow... I was seriously thinking I needed to take it down, when suddenly, like every weird dude in my networks have been sending me messages, friending me, and sending me pokes. What the hell? I mean, weirdos, ew!! Secondly, is that what it takes to get a random date? Post a picture of you looking like a bobblehead?? Now I know for sure I need to to pick another picture! Boys are so, eh, gross.

Ah yes... animal puke! I am cleaning up cat barf sometimes (this is weird of me) it's not so bad -- you know, a hairball. Other times (like this morning) it was chunks of food which is just nasty as all hell. I've become so used to it though, that I just crap half a roll of paper towel and some wet clorox wipes and I'm good to go. :P

That woman at the University? What a total bitch!! Although it sounds like you put her in her place, and made her look stupid which is always a good thing. ;P

And lastly that is a wonderful picture of you!! You look great. I always look horrific in my photo's hence the reason there are like two of me (in how I look currently) floating around on my MySpace.

Skeevy though that the creeps are coming out and wanting to be your friends though. Is there a way to keep your profile private? Then again, they would probably still bother you. Creeps are creeps! LOL.

Yeah, it's pretty private, but they still have the option of trying to message you, poke you, or add you as a friend. Of course I have to approve the friends (which I haven't), but the messages and pokes I really don't have much control over, unless I set my profile that only friends can message me.

Oh dem boys. I think that pic is fabulous! It doesn't make your nose look big at all, pfft. You look great.

Ugh, what a bitchy lady. I would have taken my brochures and marched right out.

I really like your picture! You definitely don't look like a bobblehead.
