Again, with the last minute blogging! Ah geez.
Okay, so I'm going to sum up today. So I went to the doctor, and lord knows I was pretty nervous about it! I just didn't know what to expect. What didn't help is that my mom went with me! She already had an appointment for one her random ailments/complaints, so the receptionist just bumped me in to her appointment. I was fine with that, except for the fact that my mom definitely made us 15 minutes late, and started doing that mom thing of speaking for me. Err.
Anyhoo, the doc took a look at my knee, and in a fancy way told me that my knee cap is unstable, and is shifting. He said this is common in women my age, and that this shifting of my knee cap is rubbing against my nerve, irritating it, and causing the numbness that I'm experiencing. He said he is not concerned that it is MS at this point, because he expects I'd have some vision problems, and he doesn't think I'd have the puffiness at spots on my knee. This may be the reason why the eliptical has always made it feel like my knee cap is going to pop off! Anyhow, he is making me do physical therapy, and said if the numbness doesn't decrease after that, or I suddenly have weird vision problems, then he'd make me do an MRI to be tested for MS. But he stressed that he did not think this was a concern for me.
I still have paranoia, and probably will for the next 10 years of my life while I'm still in the common age range for MS, but for now, I'm going to try to sleep easy.
So that's good news. And thanks to the our county's universal health care, I can actually go and see my own family doctor, and get physical therapy for free. :)
Also I have a cyst on my scalp, about an inch away from my forehead, right in the middle of my scalp where I would part my hair down the middle. I've had it for years, but the doc said not to bother with it unless it got bigger... well it has over the years! Now he is sending me for outpatient surgery (thankfully also covered for free for my broke grad school ass, haha), and I will see the surgeon on Tuesday. I believe this is just a consultation and not the actual procedure... but I don't even care, I'm just ready to get it taken care of.
And finally, thankfully, my professor has approved my thesis concept! She does want me to make some revisions to the paper as far as my writing style, but she thinks the idea is good, sound, and feasible, and she said as soon as I make the revisions, it can be sent to the other faculty on the thesis commitee for approval. So that is a big weight lifted off my shoulders.
Tomorrow, flu shot (sadly just the seasonal vaccine and not the H1N1 vaccine), bank, frantic packing! Sunday is the big day!

I have been having knee issues too, I wonder if it's the same thing? Do you know what it's called? Mine's more of a dull ache in my kneecap and it's more annoying than painful. But it does hurt when I'm walking down hills or stairs. :/ I have been avoiding going to the dr because I don't have insurance.
