So... it as been a crazy week. There have been headaches and excitements, and it makes me wonder what in the world God wants me to learn and gain from all of this. I kept wondering why it was I was so exhausted, but then when I think back about all the things that have went on this week, I've wondered how I've been able to manage it all. This is going to be a two part blog, one today, another one tomorrow or the next day.
First off, I guess this really started last week on Friday. Well, seeing as today is Friday I guess that still puts it only a week back. Anyhoo... On Friday, I was driving to work, and all of a sudden, literally blocks away from the school, my car got super loud! My car has been making a rattling noise for months, but I knew that sound all too well. It was the heat shield for the catalytic converter. It rusts easily because my car is so low to the ground... anyhow, seems like a complicated fix but in reality they wire it down and charge me $50. It's not dangerous, just annoying. But this sound... this was different, this was clearly the muffler/exhaust.
I was majorly annoyed because I got a new muffler about 2 years ago! How could it be going bad now? And furthermore, damn, where was I going to get the money to fix it? Super annoying. So fast forward to Monday, and I'm driving a loud car to work. I had a good job, and so what, a loud car. My dad and I took my car to the mechanic, and the mechanic said that it wasn't the muffler, but a pipe that leads from the catalytic converter to the muffler... and basically it was going to be a $225 repair. I winced in pain when they said the price, because I didn't even have an extra $50, much less $225! Thankfully my dad offered to chip in $100 for the repair, and I was prepared to put the rest on my credit card. My mom then one upped him and said that they would pay for the entire repair. Thank God for parents who come to the rescue! They're not even calling it an early Christmas present!
Anyhow, I was supposed to take my car back on Tuesday to get it fixed. Meanwhile, I was happy to have a job at the same school I worked at before. The teacher (who I worked with when I taught kindergarten last year) called me the night before and asked if I'd work for her again. But the catch was she wasn't going to leave plans... she just wanted me to go ahead in the lessons from yesterday. Ok cool, I can do that, right? Uh no... because when I went to leave for school my car wouldn't start! It wasn't the exhaust... it was the old corroded battery. The battery I was planning to get replaced next week when I had a nice paycheck coming. Eh. So I had to call my dad yet again to come to my rescue, and I had to call in last minute for work, which made me feel like an irresponsible jerk.
So anyhow... my dad and I looked around everywhere and batteries were no cheaper than $75... totally made me wince again. Why do batteries need to be so expensive? Seeing as this battery lasted for 11 years, I think I was getting off easy, but still. I'm currently living paycheck to paycheck, so every little bit extra hurts! Anyhow, my sister ended up telling me about this discount battery place in Waterford, where they recycle old batteries. Old compartments but all new cells, etc. I was able to get a battery for $50. It only has a one year warranty, but hey, in another year hopefully I will be more financially stable and if it goes I'll be able to afford a new one. I know that seems short sighted but again, even an extra $20 really hurts me right now. Anyhow, if the last one last 11 years, I'm betting I'll get more than a year out of this one.
So, I was able to do that and make it to the mechanic by 4pm. And then some guy in the waiting room yelled at me in Arabic because I couldn't tell him if we were on the North side of Saginaw St or the South side... random! I was so not in the mood for the guy to be quite honest. LOL Luckily before I could get rude in reply the man working behind the counter told him to cool it, and not be rude to "pretty young ladies." Haha whatever, I just wanted my car fixed! Thankfully it was fixed shortly after, and not only was the loud sound gone, but the rattling was gone, too!
And my last headache of this week occurred yesterday, when I subbed at an awful school for 1st grade. A school where there are no walls; only partitions (who ever thought that was a good idea???). Anyhow, the class was AWFUL and the teacher next door was a total bitch to me about it. When I walked in the school, 3 different teachers looked at me and said "Oh... that class? Good luck, you'll need it today." Clearly I wasn't the only sub that had had problems with these kids, so please save your bitch routine for someone who gives two craps! So yes, 5 little demon boys who were being little maniacs, and a bitchy teacher who was no help whatsoever. Awesome.
Those were my frustrations for the week, next I'll blog about all the great stuff of this week!
