Post Vegas

Hey guys, I know you guys want a recap of Vegas... so I'm happy to share. :)

Vegas was... well, pretty uneventful! They really play up Vegas like it's going to be some crazy time, but honestly, most of the people in Vegas are middle-aged, overweight, and smokers. Nothing overly exciting about that, haha. I think my friends had more fun than I did. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed leaving Michigan and seeing a new place, but overall, I feel like I would have had a better time going somewhere else.

We stayed at the New York New York, right on the Strip.  Our rooms were nice, but our travel agent was supposed to get us rooms that were next to each other and on the same floor. She definitely failed at that! Our rooms were scattered all over the hotel! It was crazy. The next to last night we were in Vegas, my friend Andrea insisted that we "party" in her and her husband's room. This meant that I had to walk through the entire casino to get to another set of elevators in my pajamas. While this meant I had more clothes on than most of the women who were my age in the casino, I definitely was super embarrassed. And then on top of it, we ended up sitting around watching Cool Runnings until about four in the morning. The next morning (or rather, just a few hours later) Andrea called and woke Bernadette and I up to see if we wanted to go to some Mexican restaurant on the strip for "brunch" and happy hour from 9 til noon. Who wants alcohol at 9am? My friend Andrea, that's who. I politely declined and went back to bed, and settled for a hot cocoa and scone from Starbucks for breakfast, instead.

So I really spent about $30 at the casinos when it came to gambling. Chancing away my hard earned money just isn't my thing. But in the end, I spent about $500 in Vegas, mostly on food! Yes, $120 of that was on a Cirque Du Soleil ticket (the water show "O" which was really amazing), but the rest of that was on food, and a few souvenirs. Craziness. We did go to a comedy show at the Brad Garrett theatre at the MGM (I actually thought we were going to see Brad Garrett, but we just saw other comedians instead... but luckily they were good) and hit Fremont St... but other than that, I honestly was pretty bored and tired of walking in the crazy heat. Between the $500 we spent on our room and airfare, and the other $500 I spent while there, I did end up feeling a bit guilty about money. Also, I feel like in future, if I'm going to plunk down $1000 of my hard earned money, I would rather do something much cooler like go to Hawaii.

In the end, I think I'm a little cranky about it because I found that spending so. much. time. with my friends was really starting to get under my skin a bit. And Bernadette was driving me bonkers, too! I just felt like everyone completely ignored my suggestions (I wanted to check out Red Rock Canyon and go to a restaurant featured on the Food Network show Diner Drive-Ins and Dives) and in turn I felt like I was getting bossed around and at times made fun of. Even the whole "spend the wee hours of the morning watching Cool Runnings"... I politely asked if I could go to bed instead because I was super tired, and everyone outright told me no and made fun of me for not being able to "hang." Well little did I know, I was coming down with another case of strep throat! So no wonder I was suddenly super tired and didn't want to stay up until 4 am watching a really horrible movie. (And to put this in perspective, 4am Pacific time meant my body was still very much feeling like it was 7am Eastern time).

The morning we flew out on Thursday, I ended up feeling like hell. At that point, I knew for sure I had strep just from how I was feeling. I didn't tell any of my friends, because what was the point? They'd probably just make fun of me and then everyone would give me crap about having to sit next to me on the plane, as if it was my fault I got sick. So I just took ibuprofen and napped the whole flight home. The worst part was that everyone started making fun of me when we landed in Detroit because the first thing I wanted to do was to stop at restaurant in the airport to get something to drink. I know I didn't tell everyone that my throat was on fire, but either way, does stopping to grab a bottle of juice because you are thirsty really need taunting and teasing?

Yeah... blah. Sounds like I didn't have any fun, but that isn't true. I guess I just thought the trip would be more fun than what it was, and I didn't expect to spend so much money nor get sick as a dog. I'm still taking penicillin (one more day to go) and now I've been cooped up pretty much ever since I got back from Vegas. I don't have a job currently, and no clue as to when I'll have one, and Bernadette came home and continued to get super cranky with me (I think she was nervous about starting grad school, but I really didn't see what that had to do with me.) I'm super frustrated with life right now. The transition from working at camp to coming back to my real life is no joke. It's always hard and leaves me feeling anxious and confused. Hopefully I'll get it together soon. I'm going to renew my gym membership tomorrow, so I hope getting out and getting some exercise helps.

I'm also starting a 90 day challenge, which I will share a little more about later, as this post is getting kind of long.

I went to Vegas in 2005 and I can honestly say, I have zero desire to ever go back. Unless of course, I were to get married. ;-) But other than that, you explained my thoughts exactly. It's not as fun as what I imagined it would be.

Which brings me to another thing of why I can only tolerate traveling with my sister. I couldn't even travel with my other sister I don't think. I get cranky/crabby way too easily. :-P

I'm sorry you got sick though, that totally sucks. But on the bright side, at least you got to get away for a few days.
